Whitewater Rafting
Posted by Editor under Tours
If you are looking for quality whitewater rafting for your vacation, be it adventurous or more laid back, Costa Rica can offer you two great options. Pacuare River is said to be on the top five rivers for whitewater rafting in the world. A Pacuare River whitewater rafting tour will take you through Class III to IV rapids, with fast rapids followed by slower sections from where you will be able to admire the beautiful rainforest. Not only does this beautiful fun river have great whitewater rafting, it also has a number of waterfalls, and hiking trails from which you can spot the amazing variety of fauna and flora the area contains. Among the fauna to be found are the blue morpho butterflies, sloths, toucans, red frogs, and a variety of birds. Pacuare River plunks down a series of rainforest covered canyons of the Caribbean slope offering deliciously adventurous whitewater rafting. The best season for whitewater rafting at Pacuare River is said to be found from the months of October to December when the water is at its highest and fastest. In the months of March and April Pacuare River is at its lowest and whitewater rafting tends to be rocky and technical. Because of the rafting level of Pacuare River it is best recommended for rafters that are fit and have some experience in whitewater rafting. The Pacuare River whitewater rafting tour can take up to four hours combining adventure and stunning natural sight seeing.
Reventazon River is perfect for beginner rafters. This Costa Rica River presents more laid back whitewater rafting with a good dose of adventure and a great quantity of scenic views. Reventazon River offers Class III and IV rapids. Reventazon River flows from the northeast end of the Cachi Lake. This river runs from the Cachi Lake at 3281 feet over sea level down the east slopes of the mountains to the lowlands of the Caribbean Coast. Because the dam that feeds the Cachi Lake releases water all year round Reventazon River is good for whitewater rafting all year round. Reventazon River whitewater rafting tour takes around two hours, through which you might be able to spot toucans, kingfishers, herons, tanagers, iguanas, and green “Jesus Christ” lizards.
There are other whitewater rafting Costa Rica rivers that offer good rafting tours. These are the Sarapiqui River that has one day tours from May to November. Sarapiqui River is a narrow river that provides more technical whitewater rafting compared to Reventazon River and Pacuare Rivers, but that is still fun to do. Chirripo River which flows from the Chirripo Hill is big volume river with decent for whitewater rafting. Chirripo River is runnable from mid-June to mid-December.
